Europe's largest equal pay co-op.
At Suma they’ve been doing things a bit differently for over 40 years. Not only in their mission to supply everything vegetarian and sustainable, but also in how they are run.
A co-operative of ordinary people built on integrity and equality, they’re a worker co-op, a business owned and run by the nearly 200 people who work there. They don’t have any bosses or shareholders. Suma’s employees set the direction of the business. Everyone has an equal say in what they do. They all get paid the same wage, take responsibility and each do a range of jobs each week, from truck driving to cooking to accounts.
It means that when you meet someone who works at Suma, you’re meeting a co-owner who knows and cares about the business. Your driver might work in accounts and product development when she’s not out on the road, so she can give you the bigger picture.
As a co-op they are more than the sum of our parts. When they come together they create something amazing.

Sustainable and delicious products since 1977.
Built on equality and integrity, their own brands provide a wide selection of natural, organic and vegetarian ingredients, a responsibly-sourced household range and gorgeous cruelty-free body care collection.
As a wholesaler, they offer a comprehensive range of wholefoods, vegan, gluten-free and sustainable home and body care products, delivered to businesses and communities across the UK and beyond.
As a worker co-op they have tried hard to put environmental and social goals at the heart of everything they’ve done since they were founded over 45 years ago.
They recognise that we’re facing a climate emergency and need to act. So they’ve reviewed how they approach sustainability and looked for more ways to step up and use their co-op as a force for good. In June 2023 they set out their ambitious sustainability strategy which set their direction for the rest of the decade, to 2030.
